This
policy has been designed to ensure a "Safe System of Work" exists,
so far,
as is reasonably practical,
where Entry into a Confined Space is necessary to complete a work activity.
The
Definition of a Confined Space
(The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997).
Any place,
including any chamber, tank, vat, silo, pit, trench, pipe, sewer, flu, well
or other similar space in which, by virtue of its enclosed nature, there
rises a reasonably foreseeable specified risk. (See 03.206.she
definition of specified risk). No
person is permitted to enter any confined space to carry out work for any
purpose where it is reasonably practical to carry out the work by any other
means. (Regulation 4, The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997). No
person, employee, contractor or visitor shall be permitted to enter ANY confined
space (as
defined above) unless the following criteria has been met.

documented risk assessment has been completed 03.090.she,
focusing specifically on The Greencore Group Level 3 procedure

A
permit to work must be issued 03.200.she
and completed accordingly. -
Safe
entry and egress must be maintained at all times. -
At
the main point of entry into the confined space a Permit of Entry
must be clearly displayed. 03.204.she
If the permit to Enter is missing, mislaid or destroyed no employee, contractor
or visitor shall enter that confined space until authorised to do so by a
Competent Supervisor. Definition

Any employee,
contractor or visitor who has sufficient training and experience to assess the
hazards associated with confined space entry and to access under a "Safe
