Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

The Greencore Group are committed to equal opportunities in employment.

The Group is also committed to protecting and promoting the health of its employees.

The Group therefore intends to ensure that people with AIDS or HIV (Human Immuno - deficiency Virus) do not experience discrimination in employment and will ensure its policy challenges racist and homophobic (anti-lesbian and anti-gay) assumptions about AIDS/HIV infection.

There will be no discrimination in recruitment against applicants, internally or externally on the grounds that the applicant has HIV or AIDS.

Medical fitness will be determined through the normal process of consideration and normal rules concerning sickness will be operated.

If it becomes known that an employee has AIDS, the Group will ensure that resources are available to provide adequate support and that any reasonable arrangements are made which enable their work to be continued, on the grounds that to continue work may enable that person to maintain confidence and social contact and therefore fight AIDS with more dignity.

Employees will not be prevented from continuing work, except where they are deemed not medically fit through the standard procedures.

The Group will not require those who are anti-body positive to the virus or who have AIDS to declare the fact. Should the details become known that a employee has the virus, then strict confidentially will be maintained.

The Group recognises the important role of a counselling service for those who have AIDS or are anti-body positive. For reasons of confidentiality and impartiality it believes that this service should be provided by external organisations.
