to ensure that statutory requirements and the needs of the individual and the
organisation are met. The Company will also ensure that adequate medical boxes,
containing the Approved Code of Practice recommended Stores, are held at appropriate

First-aid
Personnel: The Company has selected from a number of volunteers employees
who have been assessed as being suitable for the role of first-aid personnel.
In situations where certificated First-Aid Personnel are not available due to
unscheduled absence, or in exceptional circumstances, it is accepted as suitable
compliance with the Regulations, that an Appointed Person may take charge of:
Any situation where an ill or injured person requires attention from
a medical practitioner or nurse ; Any first-aid equipment and facilities while
the suitable First-Aider is absent. An
Appointed Person should not render any first-aid treatment, other than emergency
first-aid, and then only where they have been specifically trained in these procedures,
but should be responsible for calling for professional assistance. The provision
of an Appointed Person may not be considered as a full-time alternative for a
trained and qualified First-Aider. The only exception is where, having regard
to the location and nature of the undertaking, there are no specific hazards and
where the number of employees is small. First-aiders are qualified personnel who
have received training, and have passed an examination, in accordance with Health
and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements. The Company will ensure that there are
sufficient first -aid personnel at all times, including shift and overtime working,
at all work locations. Legal
Indemnity: It is unlikely that first-aid personnel rendering assistance
would become subject to legal action because of deterioration in a colleague's
condition. However, the company has arranged to guard against this possibility,
by providing, through its insurance policies, indemnification for any member of
staff who assists an employee who has had an accident or has become ill at work,
either on or off the premises. First-Aid
Boxes: First-aid boxes are provided at all workplaces, to ensure that
there are adequate supplies for the nature of the hazards involved. All boxes
contain at least the minimum supplies which are scheduled in the Approved Code
of Practice. Only specified supplies are kept. The location of first-aid boxes,
