Introduction
Operating in a global economy challenges all businesses to work effectively with
people from other cultures. The development of an increasingly polylingual workforce
requires new approaches to ensure effective communication, not only to facilitate
supervision and training, but also to allow such workers to be consulted and voice
their concerns. Following this event we hope to form a working group
to produce a code of practice (acceptable to both the Health & Safety Executive
and the food industry) regarding the information, instruction and training of
diverse ethnolinguistic groups.
